GAA – Girls U-14
O’Raghallaighs
7: 6
Oliver
Plunketts 2: 3
With
an unexpected evening of sunshine came the result that the O’ Raghallaighs
Girls U-14 have been training for all season. This is the first year that the
girls have entered the League and started their debut season shy of getting a
result to more experienced teams. Attired in their new jerseys, kindly sponsored by Fabulous
Hair and Beauty, the girls
certainly looked the part and were eager from the off. Sarah Callan skilfully
opened the score with two points from balls delivered by midfielders Shannon
Stowe and Kelly Thornton. Charlene Murray, put in a well-timed cross to Naomi
Kelly who intuitively stuck it into the back of the net, and five minutes later
the pair repeated the feat with another goal. Jade Mc Elroy, Eleanor Collins
and Niamh Cunningham complimented each other well in the O’ Raghallaighs
defence with Shauna Kinsella showing impressive athletic talent to cover the
pitch relentlessly and delivered some great long balls to the forwards, some of
which were converted to points. Jessica
Healy picked up a loose ball and made a solo run by 2 defenders to put the ball
over the bar, while Orla Mc Entee, also made use of a loose ball to score her
first goal for the season. The Plunketts fought back well in the second half to
score a super goal from 20
yards out but were denied several more attempts by the
O' Raghallaighs keeper. An unlucky deflection from a Plunketts defender, gave
Naomi Kelly another opportunity for a goal and Thornton caught out the Plunketts keeper with
a ball into the top left hand corner with a few minutes to go.
The ORGFC girls train
every Thursday evening @ 7pm, in the O' Raghallaighs Ground on the North Road and
warmly welcome new girls aged 10-15 years.
